Our Parents recovery journey is not ours to navigate or chart. The choices they make must be theirs and theirs alone. The moment we step in to guide, to offer direction, is the moment we can be pulled back into old habits of codependence, of being the rescuer, into old attachment patterns unresolved inside of ourselves. Our hard fought for boundaries disappear as does our focus on our own recovery journey. We absolutely can still love them AND leave them to adult through their own recovery choices.
